What is a cookie?
A cookie is a data file that a website stores on your IT equipment, for example a computer, tablet or smartphone. The purpose is to recognise the equipment and thereby observe how you use the website. Today, virtually all websites use cookies. In many cases, cookies are necessary in order to deliver the correct service on the website.

A cookie is a passive file that cannot collect the information stored on your computer, nor can it spread computer viruses or other malicious software.
Some cookies are only stored on your IT equipment for as long as you have your browser open, so-called session cookies. Other cookies are stored on your IT equipment for a longer period, so-called persistent cookies. When you return to a website, the cookie is automatically renewed.
Cookies are often stored by parties other than the one that owns the website. These can be cookies with general content, but also analytics tools and embedded comment fields.
